Home Away From Home

We’ve been home in Canada for over three months now and I’d hoped I would have news about our purchasing a more permanent place to live, but although we’ve looked at a lot of nice places we  havn’t found the right fit. We might like the home but the community doesn’t work for us, or we like the community but there is nothing for sale or the price isn’t right. We keep looking.

Also we are searching for a B class camper van to use on our trips back and forth from Canada to Texas. We are hoping traveling will be easier and we’ll have more flexibility with a smaller vehicle.

Meanwhile work carries on with our mobile home in Texas. In a previous post I mentioned we had purchased an older, no, make that old, trailer in a lovely park in Harlingen, Texas. We bought mainly for the park beauty.

Needs Love

Fortunately we didn’t pay a lot for it as it needs a lot of work. We left a contractor doing the work during the summer, mostly between other jobs he might have and as there is not a lot of work in southern Texas at this time of year they’re happy to have the job.

Even the furniture has to go.

Even the furniture has to go.

Trees have been trimmed, the roof has been painted.  They have started painting the exterior but the weather hasn’t cooperated so that’s going slowly. A new water heater was installed and we’ve purchased a new heat pump, to be installed before we arrive back in the fall.

No floors

No floors

The place has been gutted, floors and walls ripped out, bathroom fixtures are gone and the ugly kitchen cabinets torn out. The plan is to have new ducting installed, the underlay down throughout, new insulation and sheet rock on the walls and hopefully a prime coat  on the walls.

Looking better

Looking better with a South west flair

When we get south in the fall we will choose flooring, counters and cupboards, bathroom fixtures and paint colors. All the fun stuff.

Maybe we'll put in a talavera sink. No talavera toilet though. That's just too much

  1. What a project Ruth! But what fun choosing all the new fittings!

    • Yes, it should be fun but I have a terrible time deciding, or I see what I want online and then I can’t find it. We’ll muddle through. It all doesn’t need to be done all at once. In fact knowing us it won’t be.

  2. How exciting for you, really brings back memories of how our mobile home used to look too ! Love the sinks, where do they originate from, I’ve never seen anything like them in this corner of the world. I would love one 🙂
