There are two kinds of flea markets here in the Rio Grande Valley. Scattered all over are pulgas (flea markets) run by Mexicans for Mexicans. But that’s a topic for another time. Then there is the DonWes flea market, a market catering mostly to the winter Texans who flood the area from December through March.

Held Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays this market has something for everyone. A lot of vendors are winter Texans themselves, living in their RV’s on the market grounds, with full hookups, washroom facilities and laundry. It’s its own little community, with indoor booths and outdoor stalls selling everything from fruit to nuts, vegetables and bathing suits, to antiques and just junk. Some of that junk was there 2 years ago, I don’t know how they make a living.

Displayed everywhere are cutsie signs, fun to take pictures of but just more clutter and heaven knows I don’t need more of that.
